THE BOAT COMING ALIVE
TRANSCRIPT

Art Daniels Jr., captain of the skipjack called City of Crisfield sits in his crab shedding house and talks about the first time he went oystering.

CAPTAIN ART DANIELS
Now when I started oystering on the dredge boat, when I went out with my father on a Saturday, he'd take us out, take out my younger brother and me on the boat.

Once in a while he would let me steer, you know, and I got that thrill of the boat coming alive, when you touch that wheel and that wind's in the sail. . . . And I just wanted to do that.

(continuing)
My father did this, and all my people, and then I started as a little boy myself and I fell in love with the water. You're free on the water. That was about it.

A slow tour around the skipjack under sail.

(continuing)
I guess all a man is looking for everywhere is freedom.
